Seeking a noble end, poverty-stricken Samurai Hanshiro requests to commit ritual
suicide at the House of a Feudal Lord. But after being told the tragic story of
another Samurai's suicide, that of Hanshiro's close friend Motome, Hanshiro sets
out on a path of vengeance. A violent path that will lead to a bloody showdown
with those responsible for his friend's brutal death.

翻拍自一九六二年小林正樹的經典名作《切腹》，也是導演三池崇史繼《十三刺客：殊死血戰》之後，又一部經典重現的致敬之作。全片以日本幕府時代為背景，由於中央集權、政權重整，許多武士都因為生計問題而淪為浪人，有些甚至故意到領主諸侯家假意自殺切腹，以要脅騙取打發的慰問金。這天，又有一名老武士前來要求切腹，臨終願望的陳述和回顧中，也娓娓道出一個哀戚悲涼的家族悲劇。江戶時代初期，窮困的浪人為了生計前往富貴的藩主家中，假裝切腹自殺以騙取慰問金。某日，老浪人津雲半四郎前去名門井伊家要求切腹自殺，家老斎藤勘解由向他說出數月前亦有一年輕武士前來要求切腹自盡。斎藤說罷之後，津雲道出他的故事
