BRIEF SUMMARY:
Sato Ikuo (Mukai Osamu) is a houseman who works for the internal medicine
department. Not wanting to burden his mother (Kishimoto Kayoko), who brought him
up as a single mother, he obtained a scholarship from a nearby public university
and enrolled in its medical faculty. After that, he met Kaede (Eikura Nana), the
only daughter of Kawamura Kozo (Kishibe Ittoku), the president of Kawamura
Memorial Hospital. They got married and he was adopted into the Kawamura family.
He is completely indifferent to the many sarcastic and caustic remarks that are
aimed at him by Kaede’s aunts and cousin, and lives detached from the ongoing
inheritance battle. But that does not mean Ikuo is a timid man. He has no
interest in the power struggle in the hospital, career progression and opening
his own practice. His dream is to be involved in medical care in remote places

在一場傾盆大雨之中，被緊急呼喚的內科研修醫生佐藤育生（向井理飾），正趕往被鮮花和水果等慰問品裝飾著的豪華單人病房。病房內，患者河村龍太郎（伊東四朗飾）正捂著胸口飽受病痛折磨。旁邊是龍太郎的長女陽子（余貴美子飾）、次女矢幡月子（室井滋飾）、三女凜子（板谷由夏飾），以及月子的獨生子正春（鈴木浩介飾），滿臉擔心地守護在旁邊。
這時趕來的是一位著裝很男孩子氣的女性。她叫河村楓（榮倉奈奈飾）——是現在身陷病床且病狀並不樂觀的龍太郎溺愛的孫女。也是曾經的葬禮儀式業界大手河村紀念的獨生女。
“還做好心理準備比較好吧。”完成葬禮等工作之後，陽子的丈夫河村恆三（岸部一德飾）走進房間，如此說道。恆三是河村家的入贅女婿，繼承了家業葬禮祭祀業並擔任董事長職務。數年前，將公司名字從“河村商會”改作了“河村紀念”。提出了各種各樣的近代葬禮儀式方案，爬升到了業界大手，在業界被看做是“死神”一樣的得力幹將。
對恆三的那句話，凜子等人表示抗議說太不吉利。但是，實際上，河村家每個人都非常掛心龍太郎死後的遺產分配問題。但是，彷彿是在嘲笑家人們一樣，龍太郎的病情漸漸走向了好轉。河村家的各位一面展現出一臉放心的樣子，一邊滿心怨恨地目送著為他進行了有效治療的育生……
楓和育生在醫院的屋頂上偷偷見面。兩人在龍太郎的病房內相遇之後，暗中展開了交往。“等爺爺出院了，我就前去問候。”在屋頂上，育生明確地表示要和楓一起提交結婚申請。表面看來，是年輕的兩人洋溢著希望的開端，實際上，這場婚姻日後將會引起一場不得了紛爭，而此時，兩人對此一無所知……
