BRIEF SUMMARY: A 7-year-old boy is gunned down and Inspector Date Kazuyoshi from Kanagawa Prefecture’s First Investigative Division rushes to the scene where the body was found. Sergeant Kuon Kenji from the crime lab and other forensics officers are at the scene collecting evidence. That is when Assistant Inspector Miyashiro Asuka, a career detective who has been assigned to the First Investigative Division, arrives. Asuka sees Date making inquiries dressed in a jersey, and Kuon explains to her that that is his boss. Asuka is shocked by the sight of the eccentric man, who is called ‘Saint Date’ because he never gets angry. She feels the extreme anger hanging over him as he faces the body. Subsequent investigations determined that the boy was shot by a modified gun. The murderer had opened fire at the screaming boy in order to test the power of the gun. Meanwhile, a young man called Kiuchi, surrenders with a modified gun that he had made. Kiuchi confesses that he was forced by Aragaki, who had picked on him during their high school days, to make a modified gun. He says he was recently summoned by Aragaki and shown the shooting of the boy. A modified gun with Aragaki’s fingerprints had been left at the murder scene just as Kiuchi had described. Aragaki, who has been arrested, denies the crime and claims he was framed by Kiuchi. However, Aragaki has had a history of bad conduct, so his statement is considered less credible than that of the well-mannered Kiuchi, whose father is a public prosecutor. Date is suspicious of Kiuchi in the midst of a growing theory that Aragaki is the murderer, but he is given the warrant for Aragaki’s arrest …
