BRIEF SUMMARY: Choko (Ono Machiko), the daughter of Tanekichi (Hino Shohei), a poor tempura shop owner who is hounded by bill collectors everyday, and his wife Otatsu (Negishi Toshie), is a spirited young woman who hates poverty. Going against her parents objections, she enters a teahouse as domestic help. Before long, she and her colleague Kinpachi (Sato Eriko) overcome a harsh life of obscurity. Choko is a hit at parties and becomes a popular geisha. Then she meets Ryukichi (Moriyama Mirai). Choko falls in love with him and this is the start of the vicissitudes of her life. Ryukichi’s habitual dissipation earns him scorn as well as disgust, and his crusty father Hanbei (Kishibe Ittoku), the owner of the cosmetics wholesaler ‘Koreyasu’, disowns him. Ryukichi entices Choko and elopes with her. Choko abandons the path of a geisha, prepared to live for love. The two of them have no place or livelihood but Choko is happy, thinking that she will make a man of him but -jdramaweblog
