劇中福山雅治飾演一位從九州到東京唸研究所的青年中田修二，在因緣際會下，他認識了常盤貴子所飾演的住在同
一棟公寓，一心想成為舞者的吉川繪里，兩人並因而開始交往。一年之後，修二進入建設公司工作，同時向繪里求婚，但繪里已決定要前往紐約修習舞蹈課程，兩人因此走上了分手之路。隔年修二到紐約出差，下課回家的繪里突然在紐約街頭驚見修二的身影，正要喊住他時，卻發生了交通事故。兩年之後繪里回到東京，再度與修二重逢……。

當初製作人橋本孝拍攝本劇時，他所要描述的是那種足以左右一生的戀情，而劇中修二和繪里這對戀人在經歷了七年的漫長歲月流逝之後，仍然無法阻隔彼此的愛戀和思念，而且最後發現自己最喜歡的還是對方，這種單純但不會隨著時代變遷而改變的愛情，正是本劇所要傳達的真愛精神。如果你也期待人生中，能有一次刻骨銘心的「邂逅」，那麼請不要錯過這部精彩好戲！
