BRIEF SUMMARY: Shokuzai is adapted from the third novel by Minato Kanae who became popular with Kokuhaku (Confessions) which in 2010 was made into a movie starring Matsu Takako. In Shokuzai, the venom and darkness hidden in every person is depicted through the perspectives of five women who are linked by a tragedy from the past. 15 years ago, Adachi Emily, an elementary school student in a rural town, was abducted by a man and later found murdered. Her four friends Kikuchi Sae, Shinohara Maki, Takano Akiko and Ogawa Yuka, who had been playing with her just before the incident happened, were the first to discover her. However, the case went unsolved because they could not really recall the murderer’s face. Emily’s mother, Asako, had offered harsh words to them at that time, ordering them to find the murderer or she would make them atone in ways acceptable to her. 故事起因於15年前一個鄉村小學女生足立惠美理被男人帶走殺害的案件,四個小學生成了第一發現人,但她們想不起犯人的長相,事件調查陷入僵局,足立惠美理的母親足立麻子逼迫四個小學生找到犯人,不然就要懲罰她們,於是這四個女孩(菊池紗英、篠原真紀、高野晶子、小川由佳),就帶著這樣一個“詛咒”成長,引起了一連串的悲劇.
