Abarenbo Mama (Riot-Prone Mama)
A family comedy starring the irrepressible Ueto Aya as a former roughneck fisherwoman. Having just married an hair dresser, she is suddenly introduced to her husband’s son. She had no idea he had a child, much less that the boy was going to live with them! At first she is very upset that he had hidden such an important fact, but as she helps care for the boy, she develops deep feelings for him. When the snooty mothers of the prestigious kindergarten school starts picking on the boy, look out: She’s not about to let anyone take advantage of HER son!
The English captioning was not good at all: Inaccurate, entire sentences left out, made-up words and nonsensical phrases; all-in-all, BARELY useful. Since this was a situational comedy with lots of visual gags, the humor still comes through, so, it IS possible to enjoy the series, but be prepared to scratch your head and go “HUH??” several times each episode. Still, even though the captioning wasn’t good, my wife and I enjoyed this series a lot, mostly because it starred the always funny Ueto Aya.
