Atenshon Puleezu (Attention Please)
Another hilarious comedy starring the irrepressible Ueto Aya as Misaki Yohko, a Flight Attendant trainee. The series starts with the tom-boy Yohko leaving high school with no thought as to her future: Having spent her entire academic years concentrating on her punk rock band and not on her studies, when her band breaks up because everyone now has to find jobs, Yohko is left out in the cold. An offhand remark by the lead guitarist (who Yohko had a HUGE crush on) “I just love woman in uniform, especially flight attendants,” causes Yohko to impulsively apply to Flight attendant school. The series is about how Yohko matures and learns to appreciate the heavy responsibilities of the air crew member. The entire series was filmed at the Japan Air Lines (JAL) flight crew training facilities using actual training techniques.
The English captioning could have been better. Although good enough to follow the rather simplistic plot, more than a few salient details were lost or completely ignored by the translator. Nevertheless, because characters were likeable, and the story compelling, both my wife and I enjoyed this series immensely. In fact, we will be buying the next two SP episodes as well (Attention Please Hawaii SP I and Attention Please Sidney SP II).
