BRIEF SUMMARY:
During WWII, Iki Tadashi, was an elite staff officer at the headquarters of the
Japanese Imperial Army. After the war, he was incarcerated at a concentration
camp in Siberia by the Soviet troops for 11 long years and hovered between life
and death. Upon his return to Japan, Iki, who is both a perpetrator and victim
of the war, joins a general trading company without using his title or
connections from his days in the army. Once again, he hurls himself into the
“battlefield” of business. Iki starts to fight against the world as he struggles
with his wartime experience – a past which he cannot erase.

不毛地帶，山崎豐子的小說。提到「山崎豐子」這四個字，想到的就是如史詩般的可歌可泣，如大河劇般的磅礡格局，歷史的舞台、大時代的故事。《不毛地帶》，山崎豐子1970年代的創作，原著分上下兩大冊，五大篇章
本劇的靈魂「壹歧正」，軍人出身，二次大戰時貴為大本營參謀，位階不低，日本戰敗後，為了與部隊同進退，以戰犯之名被蘇聯流放至冰天雪地的西伯利亞集中營長達11年，直到昭和31年底才被釋放，倖活的回到國內。重新出發，為了家庭，為了得來不易的第二次人生，壹歧正決定捨防衛廳的工作，改接受近畿商事社長的邀約，當個平民百姓做生意。（若以結果論的事後諸葛，尋求餘生安定的壹歧正似乎又選錯路了，不再有戰爭、能正常上下班、有安穩的收入，在防衛廳當公務員應該比投入商場更容易達成吧！）
軍校第一名畢業，在本國作戰本部當參謀，壹歧正雖然是不想再和軍方有所瓜葛才選擇民間商社，但顯然的，這番經歷功用太大了，公司託付的第一個大案子是爭取政府採購近畿商事代理引進的美方戰鬥機，壹歧正的長才立刻展露無遺，任務順利完成，也註定他日後波瀾萬丈的人生旅程。
