BRIEF SUMMARY:

東京中央區日本橋的人形町有著以保佑安產聞名的水天宮、上演過諸多名作的明治座劇場等名勝，吸引著來自日本全國各地的遊客。

有一位刑警從練馬警察局來此赴任，他的名字叫做加賀恭一郎（阿部寬）。加賀恭一郎視角獨特，經常注意到他人不在意的謎團，並且解決了許多複雜的案件。
加賀剛剛赴任，人形町就發生了殺人案。被殺的是一位獨居的女性，名叫三井峰子（原田美枝子）。她與加賀恭一郎一樣，都是最近搬到日本橋的"新參者"（日語,新來的人），在她的周邊的各式各樣的人都與這個案件有關。並且，她還有著一個「秘密計劃」。
